Practical guides on comparing unit prices, splitting your weekly shop, and auditing loyalty discounts.
How to Compare Supermarket Prices & Unit Costs
Find out which supermarket is genuinely cheapest by comparing normalized unit prices (£/100g, £/100ml, and £/item) alongside standard shelf prices.
- Use the search bar on the home page to look up any product or brand (such as Lurpak, Heinz Baked Beans, or semi-skimmed milk).
- Switch the sort selector to "Best Unit Value (per 100g/L)" to rank every pack size by its true cost per 100g or litre.
- Click any product card to inspect its 90-day price history thermometer, UK FSA nutrition traffic lights, and cheaper own-brand alternatives.
How the 2-Store Split Basket Works
See whether doing your entire weekly shop at a single supermarket or splitting between two nearby grocers saves you the most money.
- Add your weekly staples to your trolley using "+ Add to Trolley" or click "Paste List" to import a list from Notes or WhatsApp.
- Inspect the Trolley Optimizer sidebar on the right to see all UK supermarkets ranked from cheapest to most expensive for your exact items.
- Review the "Optimal 2-Store Split" recommendation, which pairs two supermarkets only when the combined total beats the cheapest single store.
Using Clubcard, Nectar, More Card & Lidl Plus Prices
Control whether your price comparison includes member-only loyalty discounts or strictly standard non-member shelf prices.
- Use the "Loyalty Prices: On / Off" toggle in the filter bar to include or exclude Tesco Clubcard, Sainsbury’s Nectar, Morrisons More, and Co-op Member rates.
- On any product page, compare the highlighted loyalty price directly against the standard non-member shelf price and the 90-day historical average.
- Spot products where a "member discount" is simply returning the item to its normal historical price.
Scanning Barcodes, Till Receipts & Recipe URLs
Check prices while standing in a supermarket aisle, audit a paper till receipt after checkout, or turn a recipe into a priced basket.
- Click "Scan Barcode" on the home page to enter or scan any EAN-13 barcode and see live prices across all tracked UK grocers.
- Click "Scan Receipt" to upload or paste lines from a supermarket till receipt and see how much you could have saved elsewhere.
- Click "Import Recipe" to convert BBC Good Food or Mob Kitchen ingredient lists directly into matched supermarket basket items.
