1. Independent UK Grocery Price Comparison & Nominative Fair Dealing
Elo – Smart Supermarket Basket (eloapp.co.uk) is an independent consumer price comparison and basket optimization platform. Elo is not owned by, endorsed by, or affiliated with Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons, Aldi, Waitrose, Ocado, Lidl, Iceland, or Co-op. In accordance with Section 10(6) of the UK Trade Marks Act 1994 (comparative advertising and nominative fair dealing) and the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, retailer names, brand marks, and factual product identifiers are displayed strictly to identify the merchant and product being compared without implying commercial endorsement.
2. Price Accuracy, Loyalty Cards, PMO 2004 & DMCC Act 2024 Transparency
Our automated harvesters refresh core grocery prices daily and perform deep catalog sweeps every Wednesday. In compliance with the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCC Act), the Price Marking Order 2004 (PMO), and the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) Loyalty Pricing Principles (Nov 2024):
- Standardised Unit Pricing (PMO 2004): Every product comparison displays standardised SI metric unit prices (
£/100g,£/100ml,£/kg,£/L, or£/each) so shoppers can compare value across differing pack sizes. - Loyalty Scheme Pricing (CMA Transparency): Member prices (Tesco Clubcard, Sainsbury's Nectar, Morrisons More Card, MyWaitrose, Lidl Plus) require a valid, active loyalty membership at checkout. Elo always displays the standard non-member regular shelf price alongside any loyalty offer, and lets you toggle loyalty cards on or off in our Trolley Optimizer.
- Online vs. Convenience Formats: Prices shown reflect standard online supermarket listings and may differ from smaller convenience stores (such as Tesco Express, Sainsbury's Local, Asda Express, or Morrisons Daily) or regional postcode pricing.
- Report an Issue: If you spot a price or pack-size discrepancy on any product page, click Report an issue with this product to trigger an immediate automated verification check.
3. Allergens, Ingredients, FIR 2014 & Open Food Facts Attribution (ODbL v1.0)
Under the UK Food Information Regulations 2014 (FIR 2014 / Natasha's Law) and Retained EU Regulation 1169/2011, manufacturers regularly reformulate products and resize packaging (tracked by our Shrinkflation Radar). FSA nutritional traffic lights, Nutri-Score, NOVA group, and dietary badges shown on Elo are provided for general informational guidance only. Always check the physical product label on delivery or in-store before consumption if you have any food allergy or intolerance.
Open Data Attribution: Supplemental barcode nutrition and ingredient telemetry is enriched in part from the Open Food Facts UK database (uk.openfoodfacts.org), made available under the Open Database License (ODbL v1.0).
4. Affiliate Disclosure (UK ASA CAP Code Section 2)
Elo is 100% free for shoppers. In accordance with the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) CAP Code (Section 2 — Recognition of Marketing Communications), please note that when you click an outbound link (/r/:offerId) to purchase groceries at a participating supermarket, Elo may earn a small referral commission via affiliate networks such as Awin or TradeDoubler at zero extra cost to you. Commercial relationships never influence our mathematical price rankings: the cheapest supermarket or split-basket option always wins.
5. Acceptable Use & Automated Access
You may use Elo and share Collaborative Smart Lists freely for personal, household, or community budgeting. Automated scraping, credential stuffing, or denial-of-service attacks against api.eloapp.co.uk are strictly prohibited and blocked by our sliding-window rate limiter.
